How to Prevent Your Kite from Stalling
There are many important things to know about kiteboarding. Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned kiteboarder looking to learn a little more, you can benefit from kiteboarding guides. For example, one of the most important things you can learn about kite boarding or kite surfing is how to prevent your kite from stalling.
Proper set-up and launching is an important part of this process to help prevent you from stalling out the kite. You need to pick a nice open area that is wide and free of obstructions. When looking for possible obstructions, think about trees, powerlines and other objects. You also want to ensure you are a safe distance away from other people.
You also want a location that has "clean wind". This means you need to avoid obstructions that can block or redirect the wind that is flowing towards your kite. When this happens, it will stall out the kite and you won't be able to get the lift you're going for.
You want to begin launch by laying your trainer kite on the ground with your bridal lines facing up. Always be sure the trailing edge is facing upwind. Then you need to weigh down the trailing edge with sand, dirt or small rocks. Some people bring small weights with them to help with this. You just want to keep the wind from blowing under it.
Tip: the leading edge is the front and you will see the openings. The trailing edge is the back that is weighted down with the sand.
Now once you have your kite secured so that it won't blow away, you will unwrap your lines and connect them using a larks head knot. Locate your bridal point attachments and untangle them if you need to. Separate them from right to left and connect the flying lines.
Unwind your lines while walking upwind away from the kite. Leave the lines slack on the ground to avoid launching the kite prematurely.
Finally, separate your lines, remove the twists, position the control bar so that the logo reads left to right when you look down wind of your kite and the red line should be on the left (on a trainer kite). Connect your flying lines to your leader lines and then review everything before launching.
Always be sure to check and double check all of the instructions. When followed properly you can have a successful launch without stalling out the kite. Now that you know how to prevent your kite from stalling, you're ready to get out there and give it a try!
